The Festival of Political Photography had the pleasure of participating in the seminar Artists and Curators Working Together: How and With Whom?  held on 15.2.2024.

The seminar included five different lectures about the relationship of artists and curators. The discussions viewed these relationships through the perspective of power dynamics, care, and sharing, among others.

The seminar was held in English at the Finnish Museum of Photography and through a YouTube stream.


Helsinki Seminar Program organized by The Finnish Museum of Photography, as part of the EU-project Out of Metropolis.


Out of the Metropolis – Art exchange across borders is a three-year project that aims to explore and support insight and innovation in the field of co-creation and circulation of visual art, and in particular contemporary photographic practices, across borders. Out of the Metropolis is initiated as a collaboration between NOUA (NO), Doubledummy (FR) and The Finish Museum of Photography (FI).

Laia Abril's ARTIST TALK


Laia Abril (b. 1986, Barcelona) is a multidisciplinary artist whose works center on themes of women’s rights, grief, and bio-politics. Abril talks about her artistic practice and research on societal tendencies to dismiss women’s suffering and undermine their narratives. The talk will concentrate on her work On Mass Hysteria that is the latest chapter in her long-term research project A History of Misogyny.

On Mass Hysteria is part of the Festival of Political Photography 2024 exhibition Diagnosis at the Finnish Museum of Photography 31.1.–5.5.2024. You can visit the other works of the exhibition before the talk or after, until 8pm. The talk is held at Abril’s work On Mass Hysteria.
